Afterfall 03:47
With you I've been waiting The years have gone by It's like I've been here before It's like I've sung that same line The California sun faded So I left it behind I've told that same old story Like four million times It's all right I don't mind I'm not ashamed after all I'll be fine when the time comes for my curtain call Things change if you want it or not So I'll give what I got It might not be a lot after fall Nonprofit? Not likely. Good luck with that, man Go climb the ladder - You might just get paid now and then Thanks for those kind words That gets me right here in the chest I guess I'm destined for failure If you call that success It's all right I don't mind I'm not ashamed after all I'll be fine when the time comes for my curtain call Things change if you want it or not So I'll give what I got It might not be a lot after fall It's not my sparkling charm That gets me all that I need Thank God it's not the strength of my song Thank God, indeed

Midnight 03:07
You had a lot of bad things happen All at the wrong time You don't recall feeling quite this bad In your whole life Every night you fall asleep to the light Of the television Now you don't want to say it... You think you can make it alone... You can call on the phone at midnight I'll be standing by after all my goodnights You can hold on and sit tight Everybody needs a call after midnight It's like a lot of your day's spent Trying to be patient Spending your time drawing chalk outlines Of yourself on the pavement When the bed hits your head You still feel generic Now you don't want to say it... You think you can make it alone... You can call on the phone at midnight I'll be standing by after all my goodnights You can hold on and sit tight Everybody needs a call after midnight Now you don't want to say it... You think you can make it alone... But you really need to pick up the phone now

Questions 04:26
In the daylight I've been running myself into the ground As if there is some honor In wearing myself out Always weary for the future And praying for the faith That could move a foolish mountain And calm an angry wave My father told me, "Son there is both in every man; The measure of the goodness Is the measure of the bad." That thought begins to linger In my point of view I'd like to think I play the angel But I've been the devil, too You will meet me in the heavens If I grow the wings You will meet me in the depths If that is where I choose to sleep You have seen what lives inside me You know my nervous thoughts My heart is full of questions Will the answers ever come? Will I grow the wings? Will you meet me in the depths Where I choose to sleep?

I read that nothing gold can stay But the good ones never go away The photos never seem to fade Sometimes they just need different frames It's true that you and I will gray We'll both get old and pass away My dear, we'll dance until that day 'Til we go softly to the grave And it's like I've always said Time spent with you is time well spent It's time that has no end It's time that has no end

I see the leaves blow away as we're passing on by We talk about things that we cannot explain as we drive Hope is a curious thing When it leads you right into the ring The world won't stop spinning, and I don't feel anything What will you need to keep warm at night? In my safest of places I can't decide To have and to hold Still I need to let go What do you do with the best day of your life? I brought you daisies Amazingly, they're still alive I remembered to cut of the stems with a sharp kitchen knife At least for today they're okay Inside a nice crystal vase Suffice it to say, it's the happiest day of my life What will you need to keep warm at night? In my safest of places I can't decide To have and to hold Still I need to let go What do you do with the best day of your life? So rejoice now I rejoice now All rejoice now What will you need to keep warm at night? In my safest of places I can't decide To have and to hold Still I need to let go What do you do with the best day of your life? Unable to sleep, we lay closely Our eyes open wide While you hold my hand Underneath the bed covers pulled tight A new day's upon us and I just grew up tonight Suffice it to say, it's the happiest day of my life So rejoice now I rejoice now All rejoice now

about

Picking up where the award-winning Alive in the Fall album left off, the.broken.headphones, dives deeper into the hopes and anxieties a leap of faith can bring. Where "California" (the opening track of Alive) is categorized by a youthful optimism, "Afterfall" finds Jason back in Athens, GA where the story began, three years into a pursuit that changed the very course of his life. Always honest, the.broken.headphones' tone is at times beautiful and poignant, weary and doubtful. It is an authentic milemarker for an introspective musical journey whose ending is still very much unclear.

From the upbeat rock of "Midnight" to the travel-weary "Questions," the.broken.headphones - richly produced by James Gregory and Micah Dalton, and mixed by Alive in the Fall engineer Chris Greely - moves across miles of musical landscape, arriving finally at what matters most - that which is front of us. Jason reminds himself and others in "Nothing Gold Can Stay" and "Flowers" of the importance of the "right now" while keeping a hopeful eye on the future with the prayer that things will get better.

If you liked Alive in the Fall, then you can't be without the.broken.headphones.
